Have you ever stopped to wonder when the world would end? Many people have dedicated their life to solve this puzzle, predicted, and were wrong. Some even went through their whole life being called a “madman”. So, when will the world really end? Soon. Sooner than you think. Maybe at the birth of your grandchild. Maybe even at your daughter’s graduation. And the cause? None other than Global Warming.
So, the first question on your mind is probably this: What in the world is Global Warming? Answers.com defines Global Warming as “An increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere, especially a sustained increase sufficient to cause climatic change.” What Global Warming really is a rise in temperatures, which melts the ice, raises the sea water level, and floods the Earth. What is the cause? Simple. Greenhouse gases such as Carbon Dioxide, Mono Dioxide, and Methane are just a couple of gases that take part in this horrific environmental problem. These gases are made by human activities: such as cars, pollution, burning fossil fuels, etc. Global Warming also hurts the Ozone layer, which protects us from Sun’s harmful UV rays. UV Rays can cause Cancer, and permanently damage skin. No sunscreen is powerful enough for that!!
Oh, where, oh where did all the ice caps go? When I say that Global Warming is happening, many people laugh and mock me when I say so. Well here is the proof. Many scientists agree that the ice caps in Antarctica are melting. We have also had plenty of heat waves, disappearing permafrost soil, and glaciers. So, what effects does that have on the Earth? Disappearing glaciers means more water, which means more floods. More heat waves concerns the elderly and people who are prone to fatigue. Disappearing permafrost affects our ecosystem and possibly permanently extinct our species. Global Warming is a bad thing all time around.
Global Warming doesn’t affect us. Lie. Do you remember Hurricane Katrina? Well, hurricanes are usually formed in warm waters, and warm waters are what caused by …… you guessed it. Global Warming. Global Warming messes the weather systems. It creates more weather troubles than we need. It gets up the hurricanes, which churn stronger and stronger every time, and what do you know? They could trigger some other harmful weather system.
Politics is everywhere. But in Global Warming, it is HUGE. “President George W. Bush and the Secretary of State have not signed Kyoto Protocol (countries sign these documents in which they promise to slow down the emissions of greenhouse gases) because they think it as “inappropriate.”(Information from Wikipedia) Now, why won’t they sign it? Because they are scared of the oil companies. U.S. is allied with Middle East countries such as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, etc. and they LOVE oil. We dig oil, oil turns to petroleum, and petroleum turns to Carbon Dioxide. KA BOOM! We have Global Warming in full swing. And who ever said that politics is friendly?
Have you ever been in this situation, that you were scared of something so big that you just lied? “Well, many people have websites on the Internet that clearly state that Global Warming is a myth, many scientists disagree about that phenomena, and that no action required.” (Information from ncpa.org) I disagree. First of all, Global Warming is NOT a myth. Its real, happening, and in full swing. Next, scientists that disagree that Global Warming is not real is really a myth. There is hard-core evidence against it. For example, why are there so many hurricanes recently? Why are glaciers disappearing? Lastly, we don’t need action is a terrible philosophy. No action = Plain laziness. Some politicians put that on their website, because they don’t want environmentalists to be heard, and that is why the information doesn’t get from there to where it should be. Thank God we have the media.
We’re very lucky. The ozone layer and Global Warming can be healed soon. So, how can we stop Global Warming? First of all, take action. Conserve electricity. Use hybrid cars. Protest against fossil fuels. Then, spread the word. When more and more people know about it, the bigger the action. The bigger the action, the sooner Mother Earth will get better. If we don’t care about the environment, who will? Will we ever realize that Global Warming could be the very own cause for our death? All it takes is some cooperation and some action. Mother Nature has done enough for us. Now its time for us to show what Homo sapiens can do.
